MULTIFAMILY HOUSING PROGRAMS
Many rural residents cannot afford to purchase and maintain a home. Also, as homeowners age, changes in their lifestyle often make a rental unit a more attractive housing option. Unfortunately, these households often have difficulty finding decent, safe, and affordable rental housing in a rural setting. Rural Development's Multifamily Housing (MFH) Programs provide funding sources to construct apartment style housing communities in rural areas. In some cases, rental subsidies are allocated in these properties so they are affordable even to very low income households. One MFH program specifically addresses the housing conditions of domestic farm workers which are often inadequate. Another program allows nonprofit applicants to seek funding to establish a program to rehabilitate single family or multi-family units in a particular geographic area.
