RURAL ECONOMIC AREA PARTNERSHIP ZONES Purpose: To assist communities dealing with geographic and economic isolation, low density population, absence of nearby metropolitan centers, historic dependence on agribusiness, out-migration, and economic upheaval develop strategies for revitalization Program Type: Technical assistance and priority for many federal and state programs Eligible Applicants: Rural communities characterized by the economic problems described above that are willing to address their economic and social problems through the implementation of a strategic plan utilizing partnerships between private and public entities Authorized Purposes: Financial and technical assistance resources are used to address economic and social problems consistent with a strategic plan; efforts often concentrate on basic infrastructure, telecommunications, education, and health care When to Apply: The opportunity to apply for designation as a Rural Economic Area Partnership Zone is announced periodically in the Federal Register Who to Contact: Kentucky Rural Development's Community Development Programs office can be reached at 859/224-7435
