from the State Director For more than 60 years, USDA Rural Development and its predecessor agencies have been providing essential services to families and communities in rural America. From affordable housing to clean water, from business development to telecommunications services and wastewater systems – rural Kentucky communities have counted on Rural Development programs and services to give them the economic boost needed to ensure they have the same opportunities as those in urban areas. This is an exciting time for Kentucky. Through President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Rural Development is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in rural communities across the Commonwealth – and that’s not even counting the agency’s regular appropriations. We are pleased to be at the forefront of the effort to promote the creation of “green” jobs by assisting small businesses or agriculture producers with energy efficiency improvements or renewable energy projects. Throughout Kentucky’s rural towns and communities, these dollars are making a difference by providing thousands of families with housing, repairing and replacing failing sewer and water systems and investing in local businesses to create jobs and strengthen economic well-being. Please take time to browse our Web site and learn about the many programs we offer.
