Housing Preservation Grant

Opelousas, Louisiana

OPELOUSAS, November 14, 2007 – USDA Rural Development State Director Clyde C. Holloway visited Opelousas to present $135,028 in USDA Rural Development Housing Preservation Grant funds to the St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency.  The community action agency will use the funds to assist up to 24 low-income homeowners repair and rehabilitate their homes. 

"USDA Rural Development’s Housing Preservation Grant Program helps protect the health and safety of people who live in rural areas and lack financial resources to make housing repairs,” said Clyde C. Holloway.  “I am pleased to award this grant to the St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency—it will be welcome news for area residents.” 

USDA’s Rural Development provides financial assistance to sponsoring organizations, such as the St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency, to assist in the repair and/or rehabilitation of single-family and rental residences located in rural communities.  Sponsors who administer the grant funds can include state agencies, units of local government, Native American tribes, and nonprofit organizations.

Attending the ceremony were St. Landry Parish President Don Menard; St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency Board Members and staff:  Armand Brinkhous, Reverend J.C. Joubert, Michael Dupre, Mary Doucet, and Jacintiea Deville; Nicole Hebert of Senator David Vitter's Staff, and Tommy Hebert of Congressman Charles Boustany's Staff.
