NO DOWN PAYMENT -- HOME LOANS AVAILABLE
Prince Frederick, MD June 28, 2006 – For the past several years, the month of June has been proclaimed as National Homeownership Month by the Bush Administration. USDA Rural Development wants people to know that although National Homeownership Month is coming to a close, loan funds are still available to help people reach the dream of homeownership.
"The rewards of owning your own home are endless," said Marlene Elliott, USDA Rural Development State Director. "In some cases, for about the same costs as renting, an individual or family could afford a monthly mortgage. Owning a home is one of the best ways to create financial security. It helps promote stable, happy families and a sense of place that is an important part of the American way of life."
People can borrow directly from USDA Rural Development or USDA will guarantee loans made by other lenders such as banks, mortgage companies or credit unions. They also have loans and grants available to help lower income families and the elderly make needed repairs so they can remain in their own home.
Last year in Maryland, the agency helped over 400 individuals or families become homeowners. So far this year, over 180 families have been helped. To learn more about Rural Development’s housing programs in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George and St. Mary’s Counties call Alfred Hasel, Rural Development Manager in the Prince Frederick office at (410) 535-1521, ext. #4, or visit USDA Rural Development’s website at www.rurdev.usda.gov.
