Rural Development Celebrates Maine Communities with Deputy Administrator Curtis Anderson

 

                In an effort to celebrate Maine’s Communities, USDA Rural Development held events to recognize its partners and                 highlight ongoing projects. The events took place October 28 at locations in Bangor and Brewer:


Successful Partnerships Awards Ceremony at Husson College

                  USDA Rural Development and Husson College officials discussed the importance of small businesses in rural communities. The Agency  recognized its partners in an important ceremony and announced over $3.4 million to spur economic growth and community development statewide. Recipients who were recognized at the ceremony: Western Maine Finance, Northern Maine Development Commission, The Downeast Heritage Center, Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Reservation, Visiting Nurses of Aroostook County, Money
Management International, Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, Kennebec Valley Council of Governments, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, and Hancock County Planning Commission.

                  Featured speakers included: Curtis Anderson, Deputy Administrator, USDA Rural Development; Michael
W. Aube, State Director, USDA Rural Development, and Cheryl Russell, Executive Director, Richard E. Dyke Center for Family Business at Husson College.

Discussion of Future Development Plans at Brewer Waterfront

                   Rural Development gathered with officials at the Brewer Waterfront to discuss future plans for the waterfront redevelopment project. Rural Development provided a Rural Business Opportunity Grant in the amount of $50,000 to assist them in designing a historic trail to inform visitors of the history and development of the Penobscot River.
The project will benefit 70 emerging businesses and create or save 561 jobs.

Groundbreaking Ceremony at Community Health and Counseling Services

                  Rural Development and Community Health and Counseling (CHCS) officials
took part in a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the construction of a Crisis Stabilization Unit. This important Unit is a short-stay facility for adults in psychiatric crisis and will also serve as a step-down unit for patients re-entering the community from impatient psychiatric hospitalization. Rural Development provided a Community Facility Direct Loan in the amount of $883,500 to help fund the facility.

                   Featured speakers included Curtis Anderson, Deputy Administrator, USDA Rural Development; Michael W. Aube, State Director, USDA Rural Development; Glenn Goodwin, President, CHCS Board of Directors; and Tom Lynn, Assistant Director of Crisis Services, CHCS.

Check Passing Ceremony at Paradigm Developments

                  Rural Development held a Check Passing Ceremony at Paradigm Developments, LLC and PROTEA Behavioral Health Services, LLC to celebrate a Business and Industry Loan in the amount of $2,820,000. The funding is important, as it made acquisition of real estate and debt restructuring possible for the business. Key Bank was also on hand to celebrate. Key Bank made the loan to the borrower.
