Contact: Alec Lloyd USDA Rural Development Announces Housing, Emergency Response Projects for Beaver Island Community EAST LANSING, June 30, 2011 U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner today announced a ceremony commemorating housing and emergency response projects on Beaver Island at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, July 11 at Forest View Community Apartments, 26409 Carlisle Road, on Beaver Island. Peaine Township received $489,250 in loans and grants for two emergency generators, a new fire station and a stump grinder and the Beaver Island Community Development Corporation received a $582,305 loan for Forest View Community Apartments. The events are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a national network of state and local offices. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of nearly $150 billion in loans and loan guarantees.
