USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT TO PRESENT $283,000 TO U.P. COMMUNITIES

EAST LANSING, June 23, 2008 – U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett will host a series of ceremonies this week to commemorate $283,000 in loans and grants for communities across the Upper Peninsula.

The events are open to the general public and everyone is welcome to attend. 

The list below indicates the date, time, location, recipients and award amount of the presentation. 

Date: Wednesday, June 25th               Time:  10:30 a.m. EDT
Location:  Upper Peninsula Power Company Headquarters, 600 E. Lakeshore Dr., in Houghton.
The Small Business Association of Michigan will receive a Rural Business Enterprise Grant of $65,000.

Date: Thursday, June 26th                   Time:  9:30 a.m. EDT
Location: Dickinson County Sheriff Dept., 309 East D St., in Iron Mountain.
Dickinson County will receive $17,000 for two patrol cars and the City of Kingsford will receive $8,000 for a police vehicle.

Date:  Thursday, June 26th                  Time:  11:30 a.m. EDT
Location:  Iron River City Hall, 106 W. Genesee St., in Iron River.
The City of Caspian will receive $22,000 for police and fire equipment, the City of Iron River will receive $20,000 for a police patrol car, the Iron County Sheriff Dept. will receive $12,000 for a police patrol car and the City of Crystal Falls will receive $20,000 for a police patrol car.

Location:  Watersmeet Fire Hall, N4691 1st St., in Watersmeet.
Watersmeet Township will receive $119,000 for a new first responder vehicle and equipment.
