USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $12.9 MILLION FOR U.P. COMMUNITIES

 

LANSING, May 22, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett will host a series of ceremonies commemorating $12,908,250 in grants and loans for communities across the Upper Peninsula. 

The events are open to the general public and everyone is welcome to attend. 

The list below indicates the date, time, location, recipients and award amount of the presentation. 

Date: May 30th                        Time:  4 p.m.
Location: Keweenaw Mountain Lodge Community Center.
Keweenaw County will receive a $1,393,000 loan and a $10,000 grant for improvements to Keweenaw Mountain Lodge that will allow for year-round operation and construct a community center.

Date:  May 31st                       Time:  noon
Location:
 Crystal Falls City Hall, 401 Superior Ave., in Crystal Falls.
The City of Crystal Falls will receive a $4,224,000 loan to replace water mains, improve connections and build a connection to the Township of Crystal Falls.  The township will receive a 3,589,000 loan and a $2,270,000 grant to repair and upgrade its water system, which will then provide water service to the city.

Location:  Pinecrest Medical Care Facility Conference Room N1599 Main St., in Powers.
The Powers-Spalding Water Authority will receive a $450,000 loan and a $629,250 grant to replace the water distribution system and build a new elevated water tank.

Date:  May 31st                       Time:  7 p.m.
Location:  Cedarville Township Hall, M-35 in Cedar River.
Cedarville Township will receive a $56,000 loan and $27,000 grant for the purchase of a fire truck.

Date:  June 1st                         Time:  10:30 a.m.
Location:  City of Norway Fire Hall, W1720 US-2 in Norway.
The City of Norway will receive grants and loans totaling $260,000 for the purchase of a fire truck.
