USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES NEARLY $2 MILLION FOR U.P. COMMUNITIES

EAST LANSING, Oct. 9, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett will host a series of ceremonies commemorating $1,889,483 in grants, loans and loan guarantees for communities across the Upper Peninsula. 

The events are open to the general public and everyone is welcome to attend. 

The list below indicates the date, time, location, recipients and award amount of the presentation. 

Date: Oct. 16th                        Time:  3 p.m. EDT
Location: 1501 W. 6th Ave, in Sault Ste. Marie.
Superior Health Support Systems will receive a ceremonial loan guarantee check for $1,571,483 at the ribbon-cutting for the newly renovated facility formerly known as Sunset Manor.

Date: Oct. 17th                        Time:  9 a.m. EDT
Location: Zellar’s Village Inn, 7552 State Hwy M-123, in Newberry.
Luce County will receive a $39,000 grant check for two new police vehicles.

Date:  Oct. 17th                       Time:  3 p.m. EDT
Location:  Elm River Township Hall, 32850 Hwy M-26 in Toivola.
The Township of Elm River will receive a $165,000 ceremonial grant and loan check for a new pumper fire truck .

Date:  Oct. 18th                       Time:  9:30 a.m. EDT
Location:  Council Chambers, N14911 Hannahville B-1 Road in Wilson.
The Hannahville Indian Community will receive a $22,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant to study the feasibility of a local winery and vineyard.

Location:  Republic-Michigamme School, 227 Maple, in Republic.
The Republic-Michigamme School District will receive a $14,000 grant check for playground equipment.

Date:  Oct. 18th                       Time:  2:30 p.m. EDT
Location:  City Hall, 106 Genesee Ave., in Iron River.
The City of Iron River will receive a $44,000 grant check for a new backup power generator for the city’s emergency services.

Date:  Oct. 18th                       Time:  5:30 p.m. EDT
Location:  Gladstone Public Safety Building, 144 Fourth Ave. North, in Gladstone.
The City of Gladstone will receive a $9,000 grant check for a new police vehicle.

Date:  Oct. 19th                       Time:  9:30 a.m. EDT
Location:  Menominee County Courthouse, 839 10th Ave., in Menominee.
Menominee County will receive a $25,000 grant check for two four-wheel-drive police patrol vehicles.
