RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP RECEIVES POLICE VEHICLE, GENERATOR

EAST LANSING, May 25, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented a $46,000 ceremonial grant check to Richfield Township to purchase a police vehicle and back-up generator.

“Public safety is an essential element of building a good quality of life,” DeRossett said.  “This money will help Richfield Township residents improve their police protection and provide power for emergency services even in the event of a local electrical outage.”

The township has used the funds to purchase a Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser and a 42-kilowatt generator with an automatic transfer switch, allowing an uninterrupted flow of power to vital emergency services.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
