Contact: Alec Lloyd USDA Under Secretary Dallas Tonsager to Visit Traverse City, Highlighting Economic Growth EAST LANSING, June 22, 2012 U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager and State Director for Michigan James J. Turner will be in the Traverse City area on Monday, June 25, to highlight how the agency is promoting growth in rural Michigan. Tonsager is a featured speaker at the National Value Added Conference at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme. His presentation is from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15. At 1 p.m. he will tour the Skilled Manufacturing Inc. facility at 2440 Aero Park Drive, in Traverse City. The automotive and aerospace parts manufacturer received two USDA guaranteed loans ($4,750,000 and $3,125,000) to restructure its debt and purchase equipment in 2010. USDA Rural Development State Director for Michigan James J. Turner was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009. USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure programs through a national network of state and local offices. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of more than $170 billion in loans and loan guarantees.
