of Agriculture Rural Development USDA ANNOUNCES $279,000 FOR BAY MILLS AMBULANCE, COLLEGE IMPROVEMENTS EAST LANSING, May 7, 2008 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented two ceremonial checks totaling $279,000 in grants for Bay Mills Indian Community and Bay Mills Community College. USDA Rural Development has a strong partnership with the Bay Mills community and the community college, said DeRossett. This money will help public safety and educational opportunities for the surrounding area. Bay Mills Indian Community received a $56,000 grant for a new ambulance that will serve the tribe and the surrounding township. Bay Mills Community College received a $223,000 grant to fund improvements to the main campus and the new West Campus, including storage buildings, fire protection and upgrades to the main campus drain field. The event is part of a series of ceremonies commemorating more than $17 million in grants and loans this month for communities across the Upper Peninsula. USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
