USDA ANNOUNCES $600,000 FOR BAY MILLS COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND TROUT LAKE TOWNSHIP

LANSING, June 19, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented a $300,000 grant check to Bay Mills Community College and a $300,000 loan check to Trout Lake Township in two ceremonies.

“Whether helping to enhance educational opportunities or building new community facilities, USDA is proud to help Upper Peninsula residents,” DeRossett said.  “These investments are about improving the quality of life in rural Michigan.”

The Bay Mills Community College grant will help pay for a series of projects on the Brimley campus, including air conditioning, roof and accessibility upgrades for the administration building and furniture and equipment improvements to the computer lab.  The college has received a total of six grants to date for a total of more than $1 million through the Native American College Grant Initiative program.

Trout Lake Township will use its funds to construct a new township hall.  So far this year, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $14 million in Upper Peninsula communities.
