of Agriculture • Rural Development Contact: Alec Lloyd (517) 324-5204 CLARE COUNTY RECEIVES $25,000 TO IMPROVE LOCAL ECONOMY EAST LANSING, Aug. 9, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented a $25,000 ceremonial check to Clare County to help attract and retain jobs in the area. “USDA has a strong partnership with Clare County,” said DeRossett. “This grant is an investment in the community.” The money is a Rural Business Enterprise Grant and will be used to establish a revolving loan fund for approximately six businesses in the area and will help save or create 18 local jobs. Earlier this year, Clare County received $79,000 for low-income housing assistance and $116,000 for the construction of Redding Township’s new township hall. USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
