of Agriculture Rural Development Contact: Alec Lloyd (517) 324-5204 FARWELL, HARRISON, RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP RECEIVE $634,000 FROM USDA EAST LANSING, Oct. 26, 2007 USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented $634,000 in grants and loans to the Village of Farwell, City of Harrison and Richfield Township that will help fund improvements to serve more than 17,000 local residents. Todays events show the variety of ways USDA Rural Development is helping Michigan communities, said DeRossett. These are investments in the future of rural Michigan. The Village of Farwell received a $565,000 loan for street replacement featuring improved drainage for the area surrounding school buildings and will serve 855 rural residents. Richfield Township received $52,000 in grants to purchase a Department of Public Works pickup truck and police vehicle that will serve 4,139 rural residents. During Fiscal Year 2007, USDA Rural Development invested more than $426 million in rural Michigan communities. USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
