of Agriculture • Rural Development USDA ANNOUNCES $37 MILLION FOR NEW MACKINAC STRAITS HOSPITAL EAST LANSING, May 19, 2008 – U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett will present a ceremonial $37 million loan check for a new hospital on Wednesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. to Mackinaw Straits Health System, Inc., located at the site of the new facility, North State Street (Business Route 75) just south of the airport, in St. Ignace. The money will pay for a replacement critical access hospital, long term care unit and tribal health clinic that will serve 20,049 rural customers. The event is open to the general public and everyone is welcome to attend. USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
