USDA ANNOUNCES $49,000 FOR MANISTIQUE EMERGENCY VEHICLES

EAST LANSING, May 7, 2008 – U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented a $49,000 ceremonial check to the City of Manistique for a new ambulance, fire equipment van and rescue skid.

“This is a great example of how USDA Rural Development is helping to improve public safety and the quality of life in the Upper Peninsula,” said DeRossett.

USDA Rural Development is providing a $23,000 grant for the ambulance, which carries a total cost of $94,618.  The fire equipment van and rescue skid cost $35,043, with $26,000 of that being provided by USDA.

The event is part of a series of ceremonies commemorating more than $17 million in grants and loans this month for communities across the Upper Peninsula.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
