of Agriculture • Rural Development Contact: Alec Lloyd (517) 324-5204 PERE MARQUETTE DISTRICT LIBRARY RECEIVES $1.5 MILLION LOAN EAST LANSING, June 8, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Community Programs Specialist Christine Maxwell today presented a $1,545,000 ceremonial loan check to Pere Marquette District Library Director Sheila Bisonnette at the new 10,132-square foot facility. The library features a teen activity room, a quiet reading room that has a sitting area with a gas fireplace, a large central area for book displays and meeting rooms. Formed in February 2005, the Pere Marquette District Library consists of the City of Clare, Grant Township, Vernon Township and Wise Township. Residents have approved a millage to support the funding and maintenance of the library and have donated more than $1 million to the project. USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
