SANILAC ECONOMIC ALLIANCE RECEIVES $50,000 FROM USDA

EAST LANSING, Oct. 29, 2007 – USDA Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented a $50,000 ceremonial grant check to the Sanilac Economic Alliance.

“Our core mission at USDA Rural Development is to improve the quality of life in rural areas,” DeRossett said.  “This is an investment in economic growth and the future prosperity for Sanilac area residents.”

The money is available through the Rural Business Enterprise Grant program and will be used to foster local entrepreneurship and increase employment.  The Sanilac Economic Alliance will utilize the grant to help accomplish its goal of creating 1,500 primary and 3,150 secondary jobs in Sanilac County.  During Fiscal Year 2007, USDA Rural Development invested more than $426 million in rural Michigan communities.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
