THUMB AREA RECEIVES $188,500 FROM USDA

EAST LANSING, Aug. 1, 2008 – U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented $188,500 in grants for communities in Huron and Tuscola counties. 

“These investments will help improve the business climate and generate economic prosperity,” said DeRossett.  “They reflect USDA Rural Development’s continuing commitment to Thumb area residents.”

The Village of Port Austin received $70,000 to help construct a covered structure for the Farmers Market.

Tuscola County received $45,000 for their Enterprise Facilitation Project. 

The Small Business Association of Michigan received $65,000 for an Economic Gardening Pilot Project in Tuscola County.

The Village of Mayville received $8,500 to assist with equipment purchases for a small downtown business.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
