of Agriculture Rural Development USDA ANNOUNCES $2,756,000 FOR TORCH LAKE AREA SEWAGE AUTHORITY EAST LANSING, May 9, 2008 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Director for Michigan Gene DeRossett today presented a $2,756,000 ceremonial loan check to the Torch Lake Area Sewage Authority for sewer improvements. USDA Rural Development is committed to helping communities protect ground water and the environment, said DeRossett. This money will help ensure that future generations of area residents can enjoy clean, safe ground water. The money will be used to install 26,000 linear feet of cured-in-place sewer lining in existing mains, repair 227 manholes and 11 lift/pump stations to eliminate inflow and infiltration. The project wills serve 1,087 rural homes and businesses. The event is part of a series of ceremonies commemorating more than $17 million in grants and loans this month for communities across the Upper Peninsula. USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
