USDA CELEBRATES HOME OWNERSHIP WITH MORTGAGE REPAYMENT CEREMONY

EAST LANSING, June 6, 2007 – USDA Rural Development is marking home ownership month with a ceremony to commemorate the repayment of one of its local mortgages and providing the owner with a home repair grant.

Genevieve Mier of West Branch purchased her home in 1974 with a loan through Rural Development’s predecessor, the Farmers Home Administration.  In May, she made the final payment and on [fill in date] she will be presented with the “paid in full” paperwork by Phil Shaw, the USDA employee who processed the original loan 33 years ago.  Shaw has since retired from the agency.

Also attending the event will be Rural Development Manager Connie L. Dearman and Rural Development Technician Debbie Niles, who will provide Mier with a $7,500 grant for repairs to the kitchen, bathroom, flooring and exterior doors.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. As a venture capital entity, Rural Development provides equity, liquidity, and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
