ATTENTION MFH OWNERS RECEIVING RENTAL ASSISTANCE

Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) Number Required

The DUNS number is a unique nine-digit identification number provided by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B).  The DUNS number is a proprietary means of identifying entities on a location-specific basis.  Effective October 1, 2003, regulations mandated that a DUNS number be provided on all federal grant applications and for all federal grant recipients.

Recently, USDA Rural Development issued an opinion that Rental Assistance is considered a form of federal grant.  Therefore, all MFH borrowers with a Rental Assistance (RA) Agreement must obtain a DUNS number and report it to the Agency.  Individual borrowers are exempt from this requirement.

Assignment of a DUNS number is absolutely FREE for all entities required to register with the federal government by a regulatory agency.  This includes applicants and recipients of federal grants.

D&B offers two options for obtaining a DUNS number.  You may register on-line at https://eupdate.dnb.com/requestoptions/government/ccrreg/.  Or you may register by phone at 866-705-5711.  You will need to provide the following information to obtain a DUNS number.

bulletLegal Name
bulletTradestyle, Doing Business As (DBA), or other name by which your organization is commonly recognized
bulletPhysical Address, City, State and Zip Code
bulletMailing Address (if different than above)
bulletTelephone Number
bulletContact Name
bulletSIC Code (Line of Business)
bulletNumber of Employees at your location
bullet Headquarters name and address (if there is a reporting relationship to a parent corporate entity)

Upon receipt of your DUNS number, please report the borrower name, project name, and associated DUNS number to the Agency by contacting Gloria Nava, MFH Technician, at 651-602-7822 or gloria.nava@mn.usda.gov.
