USDA Rural Development Celebrates Opening of Badger Community Center

$290,000 low-interest Rural Development loan helped city build Community Center

BADGER, Minn., April 6 – The city of Badger cut the ribbon on its recently completed community center today in a ceremony attended by Steve Wenzel, State Director of Rural Development in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). USDA Rural Development funded the construction of the 3,000 square foot facility with a $290,000 low-interest loan.

“Buildings like this go a long way toward improving the quality of life in rural communities,” Wenzel said. “City officials now have a modern facility to conduct meetings and residents will use the building for public events. President Bush knows that rural communities need innovative infrastructure in order to remain vibrant. This facility goes a long way in achieving President Bush’s vision of a strong rural America.”

In addition to a meeting room and city clerk office, the community center also has a kitchen and serving area and meets federal accessibility standards. Construction on the building finished in January.

USDA Rural Development aims to spur economic development and improve the quality of life in rural areas. The agency invests in Minnesota’s rural communities by providing funding for clean water, quality health care, renewable energy, high-speed Internet, emergency response, housing, and other infrastructure projects.
