USDA Rural Development Celebrates Arrival of New Ambulance at Mahnomen Health Center

$74,500 USDA Rural Development grant funded ambulance purchase

MAHNOMEN, Minn., April 5 – Steve Wenzel, State Director of Rural Development in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), visited the Mahnomen Health Center (MHC) today to celebrate the arrival of a new ambulance. MHC purchased the new ambulance with a $74,500 grant from USDA Rural Development.

“It is essential that rural communities be given the necessary equipment and resources to properly respond to an emergency,” Wenzel said. “President Bush recognizes this, and has crafted a rural policy that funds projects like the one we’re celebrating today. The Mahnomen Health Center plays a major role in the health and safety of the citizens of northwestern Minnesota. I’m glad USDA Rural Development had the opportunity to help make their services even more efficient.”

Opened in 1959, the Mahnomen Health Center is now licensed for 18 beds. An attached nursing home is licensed for 48 beds.

USDA Rural Development aims to spur economic development and improve the quality of life in rural areas. The agency invests in Minnesota’s rural communities by providing funding for clean water, quality health care, renewable energy, high-speed Internet, emergency response, housing, and other infrastructure projects.
