Mountain Iron Library Celebrates Improvement with USDA Rural Development Officials

MOUNTAIN IRON, Minn. Dec. 8 – Steve Wenzel, State Director of Rural Development in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), visited Mountain Iron today to recognize the recent $300,000 low-interest loan awarded to the city for library improvements.

“This project demonstrates the many unique ways USDA Rural Development can help a rural community,” Wenzel said. “A modern library, fully accessible to all, is an essential part of a thriving community. President Bush has crafted a rural policy that encourages funding for projects such as this one.”

The low-interest loan funded an elevator, foundation improvements, ramp accessibility, tuckpointing and parking improvements for the library. The loan was awarded in May of 2005.

Since 2001, USDA Rural Development has invested about $2.5 billion throughout Minnesota – more than twice the national average. The agency has funding available for housing, clean water, high-speed Internet, business development, renewable energy, hospitals and other essential community infrastructure.

For more information on USDA Rural Development, visit www.rurdev.usda.gov/mn, or call the office in Duluth at (218) 720-5330.
