USDA Rural Development Celebrates Arrival of New Fire Truck in Nashwauk

Local, state and federal officials celebrate USDA Rural Development loan and grant

NASHWAUK, Minn. Dec. 8 – Steve Wenzel, State Director of Rural Development in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), visited Nashwauk today for an event to recognize the city’s commitment to emergency services. USDA Rural Development recently awarded a $50,000 grant and a $60,000 low-interest loan to Nashwauk to purchase a new fire truck.

“President Bush maintains that you can’t have a strong America without a strong rural America,” Wenzel said. “One of the first steps in building and maintaining a strong rural America is ensuring the safety of its citizens. This new fire truck, combined with the courage and dedication of everyone on the Nashwauk emergency response team, ensures a strong and prosperous Nashwauk community for many years to come.”

Since 2001, USDA Rural Development has invested about $2.5 billion throughout Minnesota – more than twice the national average. The agency has funding available for housing, clean water, high-speed Internet, business development, renewable energy, hospitals and other essential community infrastructure.
