ONAMIA AREA ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY
$5.21 Million USDA Rural
Development Guaranteed Loan Will Help Build 35-unit Assisted Living Facility
ONAMIA,
Minn.
Oct. 20, 2005
– Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Thomas Dorr recognized
Onamia Area Assisted Living today at an afternoon ceremony. USDA Rural
Development recently awarded a $5.21 million guaranteed Community Facilities
loan to build a 35-unit assisted living facility next to the
Mille
Lacs
Hospital
.
“Assisted living facilities provide a critical community
service, give seniors more and better options, help rural communities retain
population and provide jobs,” Dorr said. “Everyone benefits.”
The new facility -- which is a partnership of Mille Lacs
Community Development, Mille Lacs Health and the Crosier Brotherhood -- is
expected to open in about nine to 12 months. Eight of the 35 units will be
available for residents experiencing symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
“We are honored to have Under Secretary Dorr visit Onamia
for this assisted living project,” said Steve Wenzel, State Director of USDA
Rural Development in
Minnesota
. “As we live longer and continue to lead independent lives, the more rural
communities will need facilities like this one.”
