Rural Development Celebrates Opening of
Northfield Montessori School/Daycare Center
NORTHFIELD
,
Minn.
Oct. 6 – Officials from Rural Development in the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA) visited the new Northfield Montessori School/Daycare center
today to celebrate the facility’s grand opening. USDA Rural Development
awarded Northfield Montessori a $2.7 million low-interest loan last year to
build the new center.
“This project shows the versatility of USDA Rural
Development,” said Chuck Phillips, area director for USDA Rural Development in
southeastern
Minnesota
. “In addition to projects like this, we have funding available to rural
communities for clean water, housing, hospitals, high-speed Internet and other
infrastructure projects. I want to congratulate Northfield Montessori, and thank
them for having the vision and drive to build such a fine facility.”
Northfield Montessori used the USDA Rural Development loan to
purchase 2.4 acres of land and build the 14,796 square foot Montessori
School/Day Care Center. The additional space will allow Northfield Montessori to
accept new students and create about 10 full-time and five part-time staff
positions.
In addition, the new facility will include a playground area
and larger kitchen and cafeteria space.
During the Bush administration, USDA Rural Development has
invested over $2.5 billion throughout
Minnesota
– more than twice the national average.
