What is USDA Rural Development?

USDA Rural Development provides funding to rural communities for housing, clean water, hospitals, clinics, community centers, day-care facilities, first responder needs, business development, economic development, job creation and other essential community infrastructure. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in rural communities and carry out President Bush's vision for a strong rural America. USDA Rural Development has invested almost $4 billion throughout Minnesota since 2001.

There are 13 USDA Rural Development field offices located throughout Minnesota that are ready to assist you. From the Minnesota State Office in St. Paul, USDA Rural Development is able to work closely with elected officials, other government agencies and our partners in the mortgage and banking industries.

Through our multi-family housing program, we make it easy to find affordable rental housing through our Apartments for Rent search tool. Click HERE to search affordable rental housing in any of Minnesota's 87 counties.

Below is a summary of USDA Rural Development's investment in Minnesota in 2007.

Telecommunications/Electricity $227 million
Housing $197 million
Community Programs $37 million
Business and Cooperative $9 million
     TOTAL $470 million
