Solid Waste Management Grant Program:

PURPOSE

The Solid Waste Management Grant Program provides technical assistance and/or training to help rural communities reduce or eliminate pollution of water resources and improve planning for and management of solid waste sites 

ELIGIBILITY

Public Bodies

Non-Profit Organizations 

FUND USE

Reduce solid waste in rural streams

Improve management of solid waste facilities

Evaluate current landfill conditions to determine threats to water resources

Provide technical assistance & training for operators of landfills that are closed or will be closed in the near future by providing training for the development and/or implementation of closure schedules, future land use, safety, and maintenance plans to meet permit requirements

RESTRICTIONS

Grand funds my not be used to fund political activities

Grant funds may not pay for construction, operation, or maintenance costs

Grant funds may not pay for capital assets, the purchase of real estate or vehicles, improve and renovate office space, or repair, and maintain privately-owned property

Grant funds may not duplicate current services, replacement or substitution of support previously provided

Grant funds may not be used to recruit applications for Rural Development’s water and waste disposal loan and/or any loan and/or grant program

Grant funds may not pay costs incurred prior to the effective date of grants made under this instruction

Grants are eligible for rural areas, towns, & cities maximum population – 10,000 people
