Programs for Cooperatives


Cooperative Development Assistance
Purpose: To provide a wide range of assistance for people interested in forming new cooperatives. This help can range from an initial feasibility study to the creation and implementation of a business plan. Cooperative program staff includes cooperative development specialists who do everything from identifying potential cooperative functions through developing bylaws. They also provide training for cooperative directors.

Rural Cooperative Grants
Purpose: To finance the establishment and operation of cooperative development. The grants are to improve the economic conditions of rural areas by promoting the development and commercialization of new services, products, processes, and enterprises in rural areas.   In North Dakota, all areas are eligible except Fargo/ West Fargo and Bismarck/ Mandan.   Eligible applicants are public bodies, nonprofit organizations, and federally recognized Indian Tribal groups.

Value Added Producer Grants
Purpose:  The purpose of this grant is to assist independent agricultural producers entering into value-added activities. Eligible applicants are independent producers, farmer and rancher cooperatives, agricultural producer groups, and majority-controlled producer-based business ventures.   Grants are made for working capital for the value-added venture, or for planning purposes such as a feasibility study.  Value Added Producer Grant Fact Sheet.
