2006 NRDP Annual Rural Policy Conference

Rural Collaboration in Program and Policy  

                                         Development

The National Rural Development Partnership (NRDP) and Partners for Rural America (PRA) are pleased to announce their sponsorship of the 2006 Annual Rural Policy Conference.  A number of nationally recognized speakers will be attending – Secretary Michael O. Leavitt, Health and Human Services, invited, Senator Craig Thomas, Wyoming and Jack Schultz, CEO of Agracel, Inc., an Industrial Development firm specializing in the agurban® market and  author of “Boomtown USA – The 7 ˝ Keys to Big Success in Small Towns.” Other speakers include Alan Morgan, CEO, National Rural Health Association; Stephanie Redman, National Main Street Center; Marcie McLaughlin, RURPI (Rural Reach Policy Institute); Mary Randolph, Chair, NRDP; and other State Rural Development Council (SRDC) leaders.

The conference begins at 1:30 PM on Sunday, March 26 with PRA and NRDP activities and all State Rural development Council (SRDC) Leaders and Executive Directors should plan to attend Sunday afternoon and Monday morning activities. The conference opens to the public on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 1:30 PM with a Panel Presentation on – “Agriculture in Rural Communities: Changing Attitudes Toward Rural Development & Its Implications for the 2007 Farm Bill.” Panel members will include Rick Tolman, CEO, National Corn Growers Association, Jeremy W. Carter, House Agriculture Committee staffer, and representatives from USDA Rural Development and Farm Bureau. The second session on Monday will feature a number of representatives from the National Rural Network discussing the non-profit sector’s perspectives on rural policy and collaboration. The National Rural Network (NRN) represents the breadth of non-governmental organizations whose constituencies comprise an emergent new rural reality. The mission of the NRN is to create awareness and understanding of those public policies which enhance the viability of Rural America.

This 2006 Annual Rural Policy Conference is a must attend event for anyone – federal, state, and local level organizations and/or agencies that work with or has an interest in rural policy and rural development.
