Guidelines
Success Stories should describe the collaborative efforts
of State Rural Development Councils to significantly improve the quality of life
in the rural United States. Success Stories should focus on describing, when
applicable, the following aspects of each effort:
-
Innovation: Many complex
situations demand creative solutions stemming from innovative thinking. SRDCs
are ideal vehicles for innovation in addressing rural needs for their state;
several innovative activities have been recognized as models for expansion to
the nation.
-
Policy/Legislative Impacts:
SRDCs examine the needs of rural communities in their state relative to the
programs and services currently available. If the SRDCs effort involves work
to identify and change ineffective policies or development of new, more
effective programs, these efforts should be described.
-
Collaboration/Facilitation:
A defining characteristic of the NRDP is collaboration. While all SRDC
functions generally involve collaboration with other organizations, it is
important to describe collaborative efforts in all Success Stories.
-
Project Outcomes: It is
important to document and promote the achievements of SRDCs. As such, it is
crucial that specific outcomes and products of efforts being described by
Success Stories be included. For example, a grant received by a rural
community could be direct result of community assessments and technical
assistance performed by an SRDC.
