Rural Development Corozal Local Office staff membersJuly 21, 2005 -- José A. Otero-García, Puerto Rico State Director, announced that 42 outreach activities were held during June as part of Puerto Rico Rural Development's National Homeownership Month celebration. As of July 16, 2005, the Agency helped 821 families have a safe and secure home this year. The Corozal Local Office (click photo to enlarge) was the one that obligated the most funds in Puerto Rico, for a total of $5,093,928. Staff there helped 81 families live in a safe and secure house.

CATPI is a non profit organization that teaches skills to people with special needs to gain self sufficiency, and provides them with the basis to initiate their own business or obtain a job in a private garden/nursery or related business.

Otero-García at the CANII rehabilitation center in the municipality of Isabela. The center has received significant funding from Rural Development. Also pictured, right, is Under Secretary Gonzalez (click photo to enlarge) at a Self-Help Housing development in Cidra, Puerto Rico, as he and Construction Supervisor Abimael Rodriguez look at housing plans. Through the Self-Help project in Cidra, 20 families are constructing their own homes with the help of construction experts.

COSSMA and Rural Development representatives celebrate the loan for the COSSMA health care facilityNovember 19, 2004 -- José A. The funds support President Bush's efforts to create jobs and improve economic opportunities in rural areas.

Otero-García, State Director for USDA Rural Development (click thumbnail for full view), announced a $100,000 grant to Ceiba Housing. Ceiba Housing Corporation will use the funds to assist rural Puerto Rico families purchase their first home through homeownership counseling.
