2001 Annual Narrative Report Johnson County Champion Community Executive Summary This past year Johnson County has renewed its vision and become an active part of the EZ/EC/CC initiative conducted by USDA-Rural Development. The following is a list of activities occurring in Johnson County over the past year. Highlights include: 1. Finalize and publish Economic Development Plan with assistance of East Tennessee State University. 2. Organize Johnson County Champion Community with implementation of by-laws and a Board of Directors. 3. Obtain state charter and non-profit status as a 501c3. 4. Initiate countywide endowment with East Tennessee Foundation. 5. Participate in regional Vision 2025 planning for the Tri-Cities/Virginia Region. 6. Participate in regional economic development seminars, promoting the Champion Community and revitalization of Johnson County. 7. Nominated for Tennessee Rural Development Award. The State Rural Development Committee that is comprised of agencies and school systems that deliver agricultural related services across the state presents the award. 8. One-Stop Workforce Development Center established. 9. Tennessee Department of Economic Development completed a GIS mapping of existing utility lines and other services provided by the county. 10. Community Clean-up events held on Watauga Lake. Focused removing litter from tourist sites along the lake. Date of Latest Financial Report To be submitted once the non-profit has been established for one year.
