2001 Annual Report Executive Summary

Upper Kanawha Valley Enterprise Community

For the 2001 fiscal year, the Upper Kanawha Valley Enterprise Community (UKVEC) has realized many successes.  First and foremost, the UKVEC has located its staff in the old Chelyan Elementary School, now known as the UKVEC Business Center.  The school will be renovated for use as a business and community center.  This structure serves also as an excellent contact facility for organizations and residents.  For our past year’s activities, the UKVEC recorded over $84 million in funds infused into the Upper Kanawha Valley through programs such as infrastructure, demolition, rails-to-trails, housing, transportation, community facilities and several other programs.  This information was relayed into our benchmark system and illustrated that the UKVEC was ranked in the top five in the nation among Round II Enterprise Communities.

The UKVEC has orchestrated tremendous success through visualization. Organizations and residents have realized that success is measured through persistence and hard work.  Marketing efforts by the UKVEC to enhance the programs and projects of the UKVEC have yielded little results.  Volunteerism and new participation remain minimal unless residents experience a direct correlation to success or success through a program.  Many activities have taken off, housing rehabilitation, rails-to-trails, UKVEC Business Center, youth programs, community centers and demolition.  The factor that has been relevant to the success of these programs is collaboration and assistance from other organization and residents.

In conclusion, the UKVEC continues to assist those in need. New programs and initiatives come up daily.  The UKVEC has made note of its role in the community and in relation to other organizations. For the past year, true success can be measured and the future of the area is bright with new structures, new programs, and new participation.
