Jackson County Enterprise Community

Throughout 2003, the Jackson County Development Council, Inc. (JCDC) successfully continued to achieve the economic and community development goals of its Strategic Plan while making marked progress in carrying out benchmark tasking requirements. Community partnership and business enterprise efforts resulted in the submission of 75 funding applications, which leveraged receipt of $86,957,458 in federal, state, local, and private funds to support the County, the five incorporated cities, and several private non-profit organizations within the Federal Rural Enterprise Community.

During the year, the JCDC responded to 783 business assistance requests and inquiries which contributed to the creation of 595 new jobs and 6 new businesses, while sustaining (saving) 103 other jobs. These figures include the new Family Dollar Distribution Center. Jackson County’s economic and community development progress for 2003 is shown in the following major accomplishments:

• During 2003, 45 businesses and home-owners were assisted in applications for the Florida Enterprise Zone tax refund program.

The total tax refunds applied for during the year 2003 was $11,797,000 with a grand total of $12,813.083 since the program’s inception.
