2003 Annual Report Executive Summary

North Delta Mississippi Enterprise Community

The North Delta Mississippi Enterprise Community experienced a very significant year in 2003. We continue to stand firm of our mission, “united by our commitment to provide a catalyst to empower communities to become independent and to improve lifestyles and living conditions” for the area of Northwest Mississippi which consists of parts of Panola, Quitman and Tallahatchie counties comprised of the most depressed areas of the country. We remain delegated to our grassroots’ community by continuing monthly meetings rotating from Panola to Quitman to Tallahatchie counties distributing information and receiving input, which are helpful in carrying out the goals and objectives of the EC. The EC continue to partner and offer letters of support to local non-profits, county and city governments.

The Enterprise Community focused and progressed in areas such as; housing renovations and new construction through several organizations; infrastructure through water and sewer; education and youth programs; retention and creation of jobs in each county; and our Fair Housing Outreach Program. Through partnership and collaboration, benchmarks activities have been recorded on practically every Benchmark from EC Sponsored Event projects to Credit Access. Our most recent accomplishment was to be awarded another Fair Housing Initiative Program Grant for FY’04’ through the HUD-Fair Housing Outreach Program.

Many of the problems facing our communities are not nearly where they should be in terms of development, but because of the Enterprise Community, they are not where they use to be.
