2004 Annual Report Executive Summary

Desert Communities Empowerment Zone

DACE has continued its focus on establishing the organization as an entrepreneurial engine that can meet the communities needs while providing revenue to DACE.  The following projects highlight this years most significant accomplishments:  1) DACE in partnership with RANCHO Housing, successfully secured funding as a partnership with the Cities of Blythe and Coachella to implement a housing repair program.  RANCHO has expanded its successful homebuyer education program that serves a variety of upcoming homeowners across the valley; 2) RANCHO Housing Alliance, Inc. continued its first housing subdivision—Rancho de la Fe, consisting of 120 units of affordable homes; and 3) DACE secured additional funding to renovate the food warehouse and implemented Nana’s  Pantry—a buying coop for food bank and nutritional programs in Eastern Riverside County.

Internal organization and management systems have improved significantly.  These systems aid in the coordinated development of project ideas, funding, community outreach, and advancing projects to implementation.  Ongoing community meetings have served to identify issues affecting the community.  The community continues to be an active participant in EZ affairs.
