Oglala Sioux-Pine Ridge Empowerment Zone
In 2004, the OOW EZ completely reworked its benchmarks on the online Benchmark Management System and created a new two-year strategic work plan. OOW EZ assisted in the start up of a number of new community-based organizations that hold great promise to reduce the conditions of persistent poverty on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Most of the growth in our abilities and sustainability is coming from our work with the private sector in business development. To date, the OOW EZ benchmarks have contributed to the creation or retention of 323 jobs on the Reservation, not including the temporary jobs such as construction in the building of many different projects. We are pleased to report that to date our records indicate that $43,707,370 has been invested in EZ benchmark projects, of which $21,086,754 (48%) has come from non-federal sources.
