Griggs-Steele County Empowerment Zone
The Griggs-Steele Empowerment Zone (GSEZ) took steps to give special attention to four targeted economic and community development areas in 2004. Significant progress was made in these areas of Value-Added Agriculture, Housing, Tourism, and Medical Services. Projects in these areas along with all other strategies resulted in $9.54 million dollars of new tracked activity in the zone for 2004. There were 19 new empowerment zone loans and equity investments approved totaling $1.34 million dollars that helped fund these and other projects. These approved loans and investments are keys to the future sustainability of the empowerment zone organization.
