2005 Annual Report Executive Summary
City of Deming Enterprise Community
The Mimbres Valley Authority City of Deming Enterprise Community (MVA) completed another successful year in the EZ/EC program. As we continue our focus on the needs of our community and strengthening partnerships while leveraging funds to make the best use of both financial and human resources, we look forward to 2006.
We celebrated our fifth year anniversary as an Enterprise Community with a Mid-Term Report to the Community. The event was highlighted with booths by various organizations who have been helped through funding and technical assistance to provide services in our community.
We realize our youth are our future. We lost the YWCA program in our community due to lack of paying participants and lack of adequate resources/organizations that the YWCA works with to provide a successful program. We have partnered with our local school district, city, and county, to design and implement an after school program at the mid-level schools which will work in our rural community. Our community college in Deming and the satellite college in Columbus are providing more classes to our youth and adults and exploring the possibility of providing customized training to assist economic growth in our area. Our Enterprise Community has been a partner is providing a second chance to not only our youth but many adults as well. Our Deming Literacy Center provides tutoring classes, adult basic education and Spanish classes to our residents at no charge. We opened our new day care facility in our Family Resource Center for infants and toddlers this year. Our senior center continues to assist our senior population with much needed programs. We hosted a grant writing workshop and provided scholarships for eighteen non-profit organizations to attend a two day grant writing workshop. We continue to assist many non-profit organizations in our community with our mini-grant program. We continue to work on solving our affordable housing issues. We co-hosted a housing fair and credit counseling day and participated in the Community Health Fair. Because of our Enterprise Community Designation activities, accomplishments, and differences are being made possible in our community.
