2006 Annual Report Executive Summary
City of Deming Enterprise Community
The City of Deming, New Mexico is utilizing its Enterprise Community (EC) and HUB Zone designation as catalysts to accomplish many of its economic development goals. The EC and HUB Zone designation encourage the development of creative strategies for increasing economic opportunity. The HUB Zone requires a business to maintain a principal office in the HUB zone and have at least 35 percent of its employees reside in the zone in order to receive federal contracting preferences. Likewise, the EC designation provides contracting
preferences and supports strategies to develop supporting partnerships and alliances. The City has used it’s designations to support existing business, attract new businesses and develop alliances with the local school district, government entities, non-profit organizations and the private sector. A major accomplishment has been the development of the new Industrial Park which is among the city’s major economic assets. It comprises approximately 800 acres adjacent to the Deming Municipal Airport. The park offers highly competitive packages to businesses: nominal land prices ($1000 per acre), full utilities, easy access to I-10, and a location merely 37 miles from the Columbus-Palomas Port of entry and 3 miles from full rail access. Deming is also served by an airport, which is increasingly busy due to heightened activity of the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services.
