2006 Annual Report Executive Summary
Metlakatla Indian Enterprise Community
The Metlakatla Indian Community was busy on many other fronts in 2006. Construction of the new Annette Island Health Center, funded by the Indian Health Service is now complete. What remains is to close out the contract with HIS and obligate the final funds. Final asphalt paving of the site and building of the remaining house should be completed during the coming months. Both projects are employing many Metlakatla residents and contributing money to the local economy. EZ/EC funds were used to help complete the Housing Project. Preparatory work on the Bald Ridge Aggregate Project (BRAP) continued during 2006. In addition to continued environmental work and testing of the rock materials, an important step forward was taken with formation of the Metlakatla Aggregate Construction Co., a tribally-owned business with its own separate board, to meet the requirements of the Indian Minerals Development Act. We look forward to making even more progress in 2007.
