Allendale County ALIVE Enterprise Community
Allendale County ALIVE partnered with investors to open Allendale Save-a-Lot Grocery store in Allendale County. The store is affiliated with the Save-a-Lot Grocery Store Group that has over 1,000 stores in the United States. The store held a successful Grand Opening on Wednesday, October 31, 2007
ALIVE was successful in the purchase of over an acre of property with a house over 100 years old that will be used as a permanent office once funds are secured to renovate the house. The property and house were purchased for less than the market value at the time of purchase. The size of the house will allow for ALIVE’s office needs now and well into the future as well as space to rent/least to other entities.
ALIVE had an active year in housing rehab and homeownership. Allendale County ALIVE used funds separately and together from the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority Housing Trust Funds and Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta AHP funds. Funds from the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority Homeownership Program was provided to assist eligible first time homeowners in Bamberg and Barnwell Counties with Down Payment Assistance. ALIVE completed the first house and place the first tenant in the Fairfax Housing Development Project. Phase I of the project proposed to renovate 5 existing single family houses into rental units for low and very low income families. The four remaining houses are slated to be completed and have tenants by March 31, 2008. The project is funded by South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority Housing Trust Funds and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Youthbuild Program.
