FUTURO Empowerment Zone (also a Round II EC)
2007 has been a productive year for FUTURO. Progress has continued in the area of housing and also the Revolving Loan Fund and various community efforts have met with success. The Self-help program is going strong and completion of 15 homes in two counties has given the organization much needed exposure. We have more and more encounters with persons looking for housing opportunities and less and less questions on what it is we do at FUTURO. In addition, the RLF Program portfolio is at about $1 million for just 2007 with approximately $350,000 left to award. With regard to our plans for self-sufficiency, one of our most significant programs is the Housing Tax Credit Program. Because of our partnership with private developers, we have started making inroads into running FUTURO more like a business with just as much emphasis on our Return on Investment with regard to dollars, while not compromising the services to our community residents.
