The UKVEC is fostering business development through its Chelyan Business Incubator Center. The incubator which recently completed its eighth year of operation serves to provide lease space for business expansion, employment, and training. The incubator remains full with a waiting list of prospective lessees. Thanks to a $100,000 award by the Kanawha County Commission the Chelyan Incubator was able to purchase property next door and this building will also become part of the incubator.
The EC is constantly called on by the Kanawha and Fayette County Commissions to aid their planning, enforcement and development systems and programs. The Community Representative moved to Montgomery in order to help facilitate expanded growth in that area of Fayette County. The UKVEC completed its contract with the State of West Virginia to be an interim institution that would help administer the family assistance programs within the county. The Starting Points Program which is under the UKVEC umbrella helps to provide early childhood learning for children and also provides training for parents to assist them with providing care for their children.
Through the Governor’s Community Partnership Grant Program, the West Virginia Legislature and the Kanawha County Commission we were able to leverage almost one million dollars into the Upper Kanawha Valley for schools, non-profits, fire departments, the Sheriff’s Department and other local police agencies and municipalities.
