2008 Annual Report Executive Summary
Tri-County Indian Nations Enterprise Community
Tri-County has a long history of providing technical assistance and training to rural communities in our area. The Tri-County Enterprise Community works to facilitate real opportunities for growth and revitalization in order for the communities in the Enterprise Community to become self-reliant. 2008 allowed Tri-County to grow on the successes we had in 2007. We intensified our focus providing on adequate and affordable housing throughout the Enterprise Community. We also maintained our dedication to community development, public safety, and improving partnerships. Tri-County has been able to accomplish much through positive, collaborative involvement throughout the three county Enterprise Communities. We are working on projects that range from affordable housing development, emergency shelter partnerships, community development, and rural medical services to arts based economic development, internship programs, and small business loan funds. Enterprise Community projects have resulted in improved access to services, housing, capital, and real job creation. We have worked with the area’s youth and elderly to better engage them in the communities, and we continue to advocate for the Enterprise Community.
Tri-County partnered with East Central University, the Chickasaw Nation, the City of Ada, Ada Main Street, Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Jobs Foundation, OGE, Ada Artist Association, and the Ada Arts and Humanities Council to implement the East Main Cultural Arts District. The project developed as a response to the growing cluster of artisan and arts-based organizations and the growing interest in western and tribal history and culture. The Arts District also developed as a direct response to the Century Community planning effort that clearly identified a need for entertainment option in the community. It is from this vantage that the community partners are aggressively pursuing the realistic, dynamic and synergistic response of engaging in community-based planning necessary to develop and sustain a Business Improvement District tied to the East Main Street corridor.
